CMMC Family Medicine Residency

NMM/OMM Plus One Residency Curriculum


The purpose of NMM/OMM Plus One Residency training at CMMC is to enable the resident to integrate osteopathic philosophy and care through high level medicine in the management of disease. Training in inpatient and outpatient services includes the following specialties: 
  • Geriatrics
  • Cardiology
  • Pulmonology
  • Gastroenterology
  • Nephrology/Urology
  • Infectious disease
  • General surgery
  • Rheumatology
  • Neurology
  • Orthopedics/Sports Medicine
  • Oncology
  • ENT
  • Pediatrics
  • Neonatology
  • Obstetrics
  • Gynecology 

Residents will develop a comprehensive approach to clinical medicine through exposures in inpatient and outpatient as well as academic settings. 

Inpatient Experience

Inpatient Osteopathic Manipulative Medicine (OMM) Consult Service: In this experience, residents work as consultants on all hospital floors including ICU, Maternity Care, Surgery and Pediatrics. Residents provide inpatient coverage Monday through Friday afternoon every week. 

Outpatient Experience

CMMC FMR Osteopathic Clinic: Experience is 3-5 separate ½ day sessions per week in an osteopathic specialty clinic offering comprehensive evaluation and holistic intervention in acute and chronic medical conditions. Services can include OMM, behavioral health counseling, and integrative medicine. Collaboration occurs with primary care and local specialists.
  
Academic Experience Within CMMC Family Medicine Residency

  • One ½ day per week precepting family medicine residents in outpatient clinic.
  • Weekly opportunity for participation in the longitudinal residency didactic and workshop curriculum.
  • Monthly expectation for providing osteopathic teaching and hands-on training to medical students and residents.



Within NMM/OMM Plus One Residency

  • 4 hours per week didactics in NMM/OMM to include hands on skill development, philosophy, journal readings, board review and pertinent specialty related topics.

  • Daily supervision by NMM/OMM certified physicians at the CMMC Family Medicine Residency.

  • Monthly mentoring of students and family medicine residents in the care of patients seen through CMMC Family Medicine Residency OMM Clinic.

  • Weekly engagement in and ultimate completion of a scholarly activity specific to specialty.
