CMMC Hospital Medicine Fellowship

Goals of the Hospital Medicine Fellowship at CMMC


Central Maine Medical Center's Family Medicine Residency offers a Hospital Medicine Fellowship. The goals of this fellowship are:

  • To offer an outstanding, clinically-focused inpatient intensive
  • To provide leadership and academic opportunities
  • To support research or project development
  • To encourage maintenance and development of relevant family medicine-centered skills
  • To enhance job marketability of our graduate¬†


There are five key components of the fellowship:

  1. Hospitalist training focused on inpatient adult medicine with experience in consult, rural and palliative care medicine, working primarily with the CMH team and relying heavily on the SHM Core Competencies.

  2. Subspecialty rotations pertinent to practice including: cardiology, pulmonology, critical care, nephrology, neurology, infectious disease and electives.

  3. Leadership and academic role with the CMFMR; educating residents and medical students via case presentations, didactics and as an attending on the inpatient teaching service.

  4. Completion, presentation and, if applicable, publication of a mentored longitudinal research, quality, safety, guideline or development project. Quality/process improvement training and education provided.

  5. Accommodating and encouraging the fellow, should s/he have an interest in maintaining a skill specific to family medicine training such as outpatient care, pediatric care, osteopathic manipulation etc.
