Mission Statement and Residency Objectives

Mission Statement

The Family Medicine Residency at Central Maine Medical Center is committed to the process of helping allopathic and osteopathic resident physicians maximize their clinical skills, compassion and self-awareness, while balancing family, community and career goals.

Training will be competency-based, emphasize the rural physician perspective and promote lifelong learning and disease prevention. Residents will be expected to foster multigenerational family relationships and utilize evidence-based medicine to provide comprehensive health care to patients in a variety of ambulatory and hospital settings.

We endeavor to prepare graduates to work in any community in the United States.

Residency Objectives

The Family Medicine Residency at Central Maine Medical Center will graduate residents who are:

  1. Compassionate and caring physicians with good listening skills and clinical acumen.

  2. Holistic and collaborative in their approach to patient care with a focus on health promotion and disease prevention.

  3. Skilled in the use of evidence-based methodology and dedicated to lifelong learning.

  4. Able to communicate effectively and think critically.

  5. Aware and respectful of family systems, patient diversity and patient autonomy.

  6. Well-trained procedurally with a sound knowledge base.
