Electronic Capability
In 1998, we began using Centricity (formerly known as Logician) as our outpatient electronic medical record (EMR). We have a paperless system (all hard copy data is scanned in and all lab and radiology results are reported electronically on the primary care provider’s desktop). All residents and faculty have program-funded PDAs which is the expected method of communication for all hospitalized Family Medicine/Teaching Service patients.
In July 2005, CMMC converted to an inpatient EMR through Cerner. Dr. Claxton, our program director, won the “Name the EMR Contest” and our record is known as ERNE (Enterprise Records Now Electronic). The residents learn CPOE (clinical physician order entry) as part of their training.
CMMC has had wireless access for some time and recently announced it is now providing free wireless access to all of its patients. In addition to the medical center the building housing our residency program has also been converted to wireless.
