CMMC Family Medicine Residency Academic Programs

Swift River Rural Training Track

Curriculum

ACGME guidelines for Rural Training Tracks require that 22 of the 39 rotations over 3 years must be identical for both the Rumford-Rural Training Track and CMMC-Lewiston residents.

All PGY1 rotations* are done at CMMC -- except for a rural ED instead of CMMC ED. CMMC ED rotation comes later in the learning cycle; one week of outpatient Family Medicine month is spent at Swift River, the Rural Training Track Family Medicine Center.

PGY2 rotations* that are similar to the CMMC Residents and/or done at CMMC:  Electives, Family Medicine Teaching Service, Inpatient Pediatrics, Intensive Care (ICU), Maternity Care and Sports Medicine.

PGY3 rotations* that are similar to the CMMC Residents and/or done at CMMC: Electives (including one block off-site), Selective, Rural Family Medicine, and Internal Medicine Teaching Service.

Rural Training Track residents complete longitudinal educational experiences** during Swift River Family Medicine blocks (5.5 blocks for PGY II; 5 blocks for PGY III).

PGY2s average 3 half-days and PGY3s average 5 half days in the Swift River Family Medicine Center (FMC) per week during traditional block rotations*.

**Longitudinal Family Medicine rotations (ten rotations over two years) in Rumford will include: FMC, inpatient Family Medicine, nursing home and home visits, gynecology, behavioral medicine and community health/rural focused topics.
