Admission Requirements
Applicants to the rural track must meet all requirements as indicated under the main program portion of this website. Decisions to offer interviews will be made on the same minimum qualifying criteria as the main program, but an expressed interest/experience in rural medicine should be evident on the application. Research shows that medical school applicants with increased service/volunteer experience, of older age, from a rural background and from a lower income background, choose to practice in rural areas in higher percentages.
The Lewiston program participates in both the NRMP and AOA matches. However, the rural track participates only in the NRMP. The program infrequently admits residents outside the match and only in accordance with NRMP guidelines. For the purposes of the (NRMP) Match, the rural track has its own program number so applicants can apply to the Lewiston program, the Rural Track, or both. Refer to NRMP information for the program numbers (the main program number ends in “0” and the rural track ends in “1”).
Accreditation & Affiliations
This track has been approved by the Residency Review Committee of the Accreditation Council of Graduate Medical Education. All other accreditations from the main program apply to the rural track as well.
